How did I become a documentary intimate wedding and elopement photographer?
Our own wedding was one of the best days of my life. We had a small wedding with 40 guests, the program was relaxed and stress-free. When we got married, I wasn't a wedding photographer yet nor did I become a wedding photographer because of it, but I did fall in love with weddings and planning them.
I discovered documentary wedding photography many years later when I was studying photography. I did my first wedding towards the end of my studies and realized that I was really good at it. And nine years later I still have couple of photos from that first weddings in my portfolio.
Well, to be honest, it wasn't really my first time photographing a wedding then, but my second. I actually photographed my first wedding years earlier, when I didn't know anything about wedding photography and was studying a completely different field. I didn't even own a camera back then.
But how did that happen? Well, my friend asked me to photograph his brother's wedding just because she knew that I knew how to use a SLR camera. I didn't actually have a camera at the time, so I photographed the wedding with the groom's parents' film camera. In January.
Of course, the photos didn't turn out to be any wedding photography gems, but at least they were properly exposed. Now, over a hundred weddings later, I know quite a bit about weddings and wedding photography, and as a hopeless romantic, I still love them.
So I'll share all my knowledge with you so that you can have a relaxed and stress-free wedding day that feels authentic to you, and can re-live that day through emotional and authentic photos even years later.
